Please forgive me if the site is broken when this post is deployed. I ran my deploy script and went to go sort some life admin out.

Web changes

I made a huge boring list of changes, but I’ll try to avoid that…

I did a massive overhaul to how my blog posts and tags look.

The big changes were adding a featured image, pretty colours to tags, shadows on posts, oh and something that should have been done at the start… TAGS AND POSTS ARE CLICKABLE.

This was my original design, but due to technical limitations, I abandoned it.

Interesting things I’ve learnt

A few cool things I came across while make these changes over the last two weeks are:

1. There’s an image format “avif” which is like a third the size of jpegs. There is the downside of it not being a commonly supported format (if webp pisses you off, just wait for avif)

2. Hugo seems to allow injecting custom javascript and css on each post.

Sometimes tasks take longer than your expect. Which of your tasks have taken longer than expected?

I should say, it’s not a bad if things take longer than expected, focus on what you’ve learnt.
